Good, but not perfect

Pros Great high range, sound quality and build quality
Cons Size, lack of bass, price
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I recommend these speakers to any casual music listener looking to downgrade the size of their stereo system. Laptop users should be wary of the size.
I purchased these in order to downsize my massive computer stereo significantly. Being something of an audiophile, I decided it'd be worth it to give the Klipsch name a try.

When I received these, I was surprised at the size of the box. Typical pictures of these viewed online can be very deceiving. The depth of these is somewhere right around 6-7", making them somewhat unideal for laptop users seeking very compact speakers. The power adapter for these is also pretty large at around 2" x 3".

OK, so they're not that compact, but how do they sound? I'm using *gasp* on-board 8 ch. sound from my Gigabyte motherboard. After trying multiple sound configurations, I just ended up equalizing it myself with more emphasis on the highs.

I consider classical music a good benchmark for overall performance, so I ran through most of my classical music collection. The highs on these are very crisp and clear, and the midrange is excellent for instruments such as the guitar. Vocal performance in all genres sounds good, but it can sometimes get a little muddy in hard rock tracks. Hip-hop fans will be a little disappointed here; while the bass is good for the size, it can't really compare to a 2.1 system or any system with a separate sub woofer.

Overall volume of the system is pretty impressive considering the size. I've never really cranked them up to their maximum, but they've never emitted any audible distortion at high output levels - a huge advantage cheaper speaker systems rarely offer.

The build quality is one thing I can truly appreciate on these speakers. The volume and bass knobs have a great feel to them and offer variable resistance. Removing the speaker grilles reveals two 2" magnetically shielded midranges and a well-crafted tweeter. An auxiliary input and a headphone out have been smoothly integrated into the front of one of the speakers as well.

Overall, I am very pleased with my purchase. I purchased these for a mere $45.00, but they retail for $99.99. I actually prefer the sound over the comparably priced Bose Companion IIs. If you don't mind sacrificing some bass for size, these might just be the speakers for you.
