Among the best multi media speakers!

bysc03979 Feb 12, 2005

Pros Nice price point, Deep accurate bass, Solid mids and highs for multimedia speakers
Cons Center channel bracket not lcd friendly, No remote, No internal decoder
Recommended it? Yes

Even though there are 14 reviews for this set of speakers I felt inclined to write a review because I don't see too many recent reviews written in the last year about the new ProMedia Ultra 5.1 which debuted in 2003. These are an upgrade to the previous ProMedia THX 5.1.

Great Speakers ... Terrible electronics.

byscarletfever Oct 28, 2007
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great sound, good volume, functional controls, speaker mounted headphone jack.
Cons Electronics are so poor that your speakers will be near worthless in a short time.
Recommended it? No

I owned these speakers for a couple of years and was exceptionally happy with them for about 18 months. Sound quality was very good (exceptional when compared to most other computer speakers), and volume capacity was excellent for their designed application. No one with functioning ears would want... agree, works good for a little while

Pros booming sound , accessory speaker stands (extra) are well made
Cons 500 watts blows the amp easily, then got ripped off sending it back for 100$
Recommended it? No

While i had it working this system would frighten me with gaming prowess but unfortunately playing doom 3 it blew (and i didn't have it that loud).. so 500 amps might be too much for the rest of the hardware..

So you may say 1.9 years after purchase just send it in? well for 100$ they... Read full review »

Sounds awesome, but the Amps go in 1 - 2 yrs

Pros Excellent sound, nice base, good price.
Cons Extremely high Amp failure rate due to flawed design.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had my Promedia 5.1 system for a bit over 2 yrs. And they put out superb, rich sound. When they work. My sound started cutting out off/on and it didn't take much research to discover (klipsch.com/forums) that they are notorious for frying Amps. Some customers are on their 3rd repair. But... Simply the best.

Pros Ample power, clear sound, great sub.
Cons No decoder.
Recommended it? Yes

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a Klipsch freak fan or some kind of guy like that. I'm all about what sounds the best regardless of which company built them. With that said, I must say that within this price bracket, the Klipsch 5.1 ProMedia surround sound system is probably the best you can get... Read full review »

Theses are GREAT PC speakers

byseankeegan May 31, 2003
7 Helpfuls 8 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Best PC speaker on the market right now (2003)
Cons No decoder, volume knob jumps around sometimes.
Recommended it? Yes

The Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers are simply the best PC speakers you can buy. When Klipsch first introduced their PC speakers it blew people away as no one was making quaility speakers for the PC. Other companies are starting to realize that people want quality and are catching up, but currently... Read full review »

Well, I've owned these for a year and a half now, and I've just recently acquired a full THX certified setup and 5.1 audio; from the source material to the DAC and then to the speakers.

My first impressions with these speakers, when I had only a 4.1 soundcard and MP3 source material, was... Read full review »

Pros freq resp. palpable bass, hits 35 hz with authority ,clear highs and tight mids
Cons port noise at 30 hz and below @loud levels, horns might be harsh for some

The only sub in the pc speaker market to resemble the more expensive big brother HT subs in terms of sound.Q. (not boomy like almost every other sub on the pc market)

mid range is clear and improved over previous promedia systems, good soundstage and excellent dynamics.

One of the best if it weren't for some flaws

byrandy915 Dec 26, 2006
5 Helpfuls 6 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Some of the best speakers around
Cons Abnormally high chance of subwoofer amp failure detailed in klipsch.com forum
Recommended it? No

Go to Klipsch's user forums and look up how many people are having problems with their Promedia 5.1 systems. I myself was one of them who suffered from a defective amp inside the subwoofer rendering it useless. Klipsch charged me $65 to get it repaired (2005) and it's apparently a lot of people...
