The Bottom Line:
I definitely recommend this for beginners or pseudo-professionals on a budget and are willing to take the time to play with their toys to learn what they have to offer.
I've had my Kodak Z1285 for over a year now and still love it. I love it more than my boyfriend's camcorder!
I bought my Kodak Z1285 from newegg.com after researching it via walmart.com, as well as other review sites. I figured as a Walmart employee I'd get a decent discount, but I was wrong. I ordered my Kodak Z1285 for just over $150 (including a free 2 GB memory stick).
I bought my Kodak Z1285 with the mindset I was going to use it for general purposes (family gatherings, holidays, cute pet moments, etc) and taking photos of my arts and crafts but since owning it, I've enjoyed taking photos of anything and everything. I've even started my own stock photography portfolio and photo manipulate many images I've shutterbugged.
It does love to drain batteries, but I fixed that problem by buying rechargeable batteries. It took a few days playing with my camera before I felt comfortable with it. Now, I don't even have to think about the setting required. It's almost second nature. I've even gotten use to the noise within review mode. The noise you see in review mode is only annoying at first. The only other thing I can think of as being a con is that preview tends to 'jitter' in default mode, but I always switch it to digital image stabilization.
As for loving it more than my boyfriend's camcorder....I've recorded several short films of those cute pet moments as well as adoring neice moments. I love it 'cause the camcorder's not always around - but my Kodak Z1285 is.
