Pentax Optio Z10
Pros
7x optical zoom, many shooting modes, neat sliding plate lens cover, flash has good range
Cons
short battery life, cheapo digital image stabilization, Only shoots good pictures at lowest ISO

No
The Bottom Line:
I think you can find a better compact for the money.
I bought this camera because of the 7x optical zoom, it's compactness, style, and it's high mega pixles (8). I also felt Pentax was a trusted brand.
Right off the bat I was disappointed with the battery life. After fully charging it, it died on me in 1 day. Even on it's second charge, with much more conservative use the battery quickly depleted.
The optical zoom is great but useless indoors without proper stabilization. How can you not have optical image stabilization on a camera with 7x optical zoom?! The digital image stabilization on this camera merely adjusts the ISO (usually up to 3200!) to compensate.
Which leads me to image quality. If you're shooting outdoors at a low ISO (64 is the lowest on this camera), the pictures look very nice. But as the ISO goes up, the noise in photos increases dramatically, making it not a great low light camera. I'm not sure why this camera goes as high as 3200 as photos shot at this ISO (or even at 800) are unprintable in my opinion. Actually, there's noticeable noise at ISO 200 and higher.
This is my first digital camera (I was shooting with a Minolta film SLR before) and maybe I'm expecting too much. But with 8 mega pixles, I think image quality could be better.
For the average person, this camera could be adequate; but I think, for the same amount of money or a bit more, you could do better.
