The Bottom Line:
If you don't mind a monochrome LCD, this is a SOLID buy! Great voice quality, and TINY size and just 2.8 ounces! Can't beat it!!
Having previously owned the very nice, but quirky Touchpoint 1100 by LG Electronics, I jumped at the chance to get it's newer replacement. I bought this phone the first week it was introduced. I wasn't disappointed. First lets talk form factor.
The LG 1010 is definitely smaller and easier to hold than the TP 1100, not to say that the TP 1100 was a large phone, but this one is definitely better. The unit has a sleek, metallic finished look, that makes it look almost classic already. The phone is TINY! It's probably the smallest flip phone on the market right now, even smaller than the current SamSung phones on the market.
On the outside, the LCD display now is much improved, smaller pixels and more info: Antenna Bars, Time/Caller ID, Battery life, and Ring/Vibrate.
The antenna is about the same as the previous TP 1100, with a pull out thin antenna for better coverage. The headset jack has moved to the top instead of the side.
When you open the phone, the buttons are much less "spongy" feeling than the 1100, giving you a solid feel. The LCD is much better as well. There are many more pixels that fit on the screen! The names of people do NOT get cut off lke they do on the 1100. The battery indicator also "animates" while in the cradle. The phone has a cute screensaver in sleep mode.
Software: The phone has largely the same menu system as the 1100. While not as nice as the Nokia menus, they are better than before. First of all, when you choose to "Find a name" in the address book, when you start entering in keys "H"-"O"... you will get "Home", "Howard" etc... On the old 1100, the menu would get you EVERYTHING with the letters "HO" in the name, including "Mike Home", "Amy Howard' etc... That was really annoying!!
The 1100 also lets you store many more phone numbers : TWO home, TWO office, TWO moblie, Pager, Data, and TWO fax lines!!
You can also key in 2 second pauses, so if you have a paging system or an office system that has an Extension, you can program the full phone/pager # into it!!
Another huge advantage is the addition of the VIBRATE with RING option to the sounds. The 1100 only does RIng OR vibrate!
The Games have been improved. The new blackjack has better graphics, and lets you double down and split. There is also a new Helicpopter game called Comanche.
The battery life is quite good. Probably about 3 days -4 days of standby time. It has a very thin battery, The thicker battery on the 1100 probably accounted for it's better life. However, it seems that it takes awhile to get to 3 battery bars (from max 4 bars), and once you get there, it seems to drain out quite fast! Be careful. The charging cradle has been improved, and you get an audible beep when the phone begins to charge (nice) and you get the indicator light on the charger LED from RED to GREEN. Also the icon on the phone moves, indicating the charge function. (If you own a charger for your car from the TP 1100, don't throw it out! It plugs into the 1010 as well!!)
Coverage is excellent on the Sprint network. For some reason, the 1100 seems to "underestimate " coverage. On 3 bars on the old Touchpoint 1100, the LG 1010 takes as one bar in the same location! However, the one bar still gets you great sound quality. both transmitting and receiving!
One huge improvement is amplification in voice for the other person. This phone has much better sound quality than the 1100, and especially with the headset. This phone really sends clear sound to the other callers!! This is a HUGE improvement!!
The only feature dropped from the 1100 phone is lack of web browser, but I wasn't really using it anyways! This phone is so small, and much more refined than the 1100.

Technology CDMA 1900; 1xRTT voice
It is a single band phone, but seems to work great. the new 1xRTT technology seems to work really well!!
The only other thing the phone is missing is the availability of downloadable ringtones, or customizable ringtones. In addition, the polyphonic speaker on the 5250 series is MUCH better, sounding like a real computer speaker, and less of beeping/ringing.
All in all, if you want a solid, phone, and don't need a web browser or color display, you can't go wrong!
