Folding swivel screen is the best!
Pros
Folding swivel screen, comes with a battery.
Cons
Wish LG had a vehicle mounting system for it.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
I'd recommend the LG DP771 for the fact that it is easy to use, comes with a few extras and isn't completely unreasonable in price.
Planning for a long 12-hour drive, my husband suggested that we make the dreaded purchase of a portable DVD player for our young son, knowing that he won't survive the trip without some type of distraction.
I looked around at local stores and online, finding a huge price range for portable DVD players, going as low as $60 for a Coby or GPX to $600 for a mountable vehicle system. Having experienced the short life of a Coby progressive scan DVD player (received as a gift), we decided to spend a little more on a quality branded product. The LG brand has been good to me. My husband and I have had good experiences with their cell phones in the past.
What attracted me to this DVD player was the folding swivel screen. You can rotate the screen 180 degrees and then fold it flat against the player. I'm able to set the player on our front console and rotate the screen, so I have control of the player, but the screen is viewable from the back seat. And the main function buttons are on the front of the player, so when it is folded, you still have control.
This player also comes with a battery, which I was surprised how many portable players this is a separate purchase, and not always brand specific. And standard issue, an ACDC adapter and car adapter are included.
My husband's initial reaction was that the 7" screen seems a little small, especially being used to a large screen at home. But in the truck, it's enough. Picture is good, but I don't have a good comparison as I've only seen cartoons on it. :) Player has 2 speakers below the screen, they are stereo speakers and put out plenty of volume, but honestly, you can't expect Dolby surround sound quality. (But there is a mini coaxial for Dolby.) I haven't even put the battery in the remote control, as why would you need a remote?
The player has never skipped, it did have a slight pause a couple of times when we were traveling over a very rough road.
The one thing I haven't tried that I need to is the USB port. This might be a neat feature to be able to show pics and listen to music.
LG's warranty is okay... 1 year parts, 90 days labor. They do have a toll free support number, which I have not had to use since this is such an easy-to-use player.
I do wish that LG had a mounting system for vehicles; I bought a $20 padded case with a strapping system for the truck.
