Great, Compact and Easy to Navigate Phone

Pros Compact and easy to navigate.  Keyboard comes in handy as does bluetooth
Cons Annoying updates, integretated dialing pad/keyboard takes some getting used to.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  I would say that overall this is a good phone for the price.
Okay, first of all I would like to state that I am not your average cell phone user.  I don't care for texting and I have no use for mobile I-net.  All I really wanted was a phone to place calls.

So one might wonder why on earth I would pick the lotus as it offers much more than an entry line phone.  Well, here are the reasons why:

1. I wanted a keyboard for data/contact entry as doing that with the old keypad is a royal pain.

2. I wanted a decent built in camera that doesn't turn into pixelized mush if you display anything over 1 inch square in size.

3. I had to have a phone that wasn't open faced.  I learned long ago how much I detested the locking and unlocking of keypads, accidentally bumping keys and calling people.

4. At the time there was a $50 mail-in rebate on the thing so I got it for about $50 when all was said and done which in my opinion is pretty reasonable for a phone (with a two year agreement of course).

Okay so now you know why I purchased the phone, now I will tell you my experiences with it.

This is the first phone where I have been able to take advantage of the Bluetooth technology for transferring contacts/numbers, etc.  which right off the bat was a winner.  No more pain in the butt of manually re-entering contact information.  As mentioned though the keyboard still comes in handy for additional entry info.

The first thing that I really enjoyed about the phone itself though was the navigation system.  After switching from my old Motorola I850 with it's bizarre navigation menu, the simple linear style icon selection on the Lotus IS MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY and easy to access whatever it is you are looking for.  It's also much better organized in terms of how they group the various apps/settings together.

The camera takes pretty decent pics for a cell phone but let's face it folks it's not a full fledged digital camera (ie no flash).  I also wouldn't bother using the video mode which it has due to it's low quality and the fact that it hogs up space.

The phone also has a nifty MP3 player.  If you are smart what you will do is get the MP3s on your regular home PC and then network the phone and transfer them over.  Don't pay the sprint stores rip off charges for picking them up through them (not to mention you will get a much larger selection if you do it yourself via PC).  I have transferred about 18 songs over to the MP3 Player as I currently only have the stock 512MB micro SD card in the phone and these take up about half the space on the card.  The good news is that you can easily get a 2GB micro SD card for about $12 shipped from newegg.   As far as the player goes, it is pretty decent for what it is, although I wouldn't expect IPOD convenience or navigation.  The exterior speakers aren't good for much other than you and maybe a friend listening closely.  You would definitely want to use the headphones if you plan on making any regular use out of the player.  It has a control on the exterior of the phone (which you must unlock before using by default) and it works well.  You will definitely want a larger micro SD card if you plan on making any real use out of the player.

Even though I really haven't made use of the phone for texting or internet use it is very simple and you only need to hit the text button and use the keypad.  If you have large fingers the compact Qwerty keyboard might be a bit of a hassle with this phone, so keep that in mind.  For internet you have a direct icon to the web and google search bar.  You also have the option to remove unwanted icons to streamline the process.

the earpeice works well for regular phone conversations although it should be noted that you will probably want to adjust the volume on the earpeice in order to get clear communication.

There are a couple of downsides to the phone.  There have been a number of bugs in early development and it frequently asks for updates.  I am still uncertain whether or not you need i-net service on your phone to get these updates or not.  Also as it is set by default, if you have any missed voice mail, uncleared alerts or missed phone calls the exterior MP3 keys will flash repeatedly until you clear it.  Kind of a pain if you are sleeping at night in the same room with your phone and it keeps flashing at you.

In short it is a good phone but like any peice of technology it has it's advantages and disadvantages so you will just need to decide if the advantages outweigh the disadvantages for you.
