A pleasure to use, not to take care of

The Bottom Line:
I wouldn't recommend this to heavy users due to the battery or any businessperson due to the poor browser.
This phone is awesome. The Shine has a beautiful UI, gets great reception, browses the web with vamoose, and does it while being beautiful.
I bought this phone because my LG Chocolate had a tragic fall (falling down about 20 concrete stairs, landing in snow and getting stepped on. it didn't get scratched, but instead of sliding up and down, it would twist. Ack. I had a discount on my account due to TELUS treating me poorly so I went at it.
Design 8/10
The Shine, simply put, is gorgeous. It has a beautiful metal body, and all elements are well designed and good feeling. However, the shine loses serious points because it scratches very easily and because the all metal body makes it very heavy.
Build Quality 9/10
This thing is solid. Very solid. I love this things solidity. I've had several cellphones and this beats all but the RAZR. The RAZR was the gold standard. The screen doesn't wiggle, the battery plate doesn't fall off, and the screen doesn't get distorted by pressure.
Software 8/10
The software, at least in relativity for other TELUS phones, is where the Shine... well... shines. It's very quick, but manages to be very eyecandyish and fun to use.
Battery Life 4/10
This is where the Shine really let me down. When I got the phone the battery would last 2 days full-empty. 6 months later, it's lasting half a day. TELUS wanted to sell me a battery for 70 dollars. Went to a little battery shop (they actually had one in stock) and sold it to me $45. Now I get about a day. Still disappointing but it doesn't really bug me.
Sound Quality 4/10
Also disappointing is the sound quality. There is only the one earpiece for the speaker, so music doesn't sound good. The phone, like all of TELUS sounds very garbled and poor. Even at 5 bars it's garbled.
Reception 9/10
The reception is great. Even at 0 bars calls usually can be made, and usually estimates are quite conservative.
Browsing 6/10:
Browser 3/10
OpenWave browsers are used on many TELUS phones. I've never been a fan of them and this hasn't changed anything. They still work slowly and render poorly.
Speed 10/10
TELUS' 3G network is ridiculously fast. In some cases, it's proven to be faster than my home DSL line. Very pleased and game downloads are usually a matter of a few seconds.
All in all, I'm happy, but ready for change. This christmas, I'm rewarding myself with and iPhone on Rogers.
