Preface: This is a Lean ‘N Mean submission. It’s an informative opinion not an in-depth report.
I’m the satisfied owner of a LG Xenon GR500 Cell Phone. Over a year ago, hubby and I switched from T-Mobile to AT&T. It was good timing. Our cell contract expired and Phil was unexpectedly laid off. We were able to join my parent’s account and benefit from a nice Costco deal. They had mobiles for free with a two-year contract, including complimentary activation, an additional $25 bill credit per line, car charger, travel pouch, and a wired headset.
Originally, we came away with a free pair Samsung Solstice cell phones. But I quickly grew frustrated with mine. It had an annoying echo while in speaker mode. After a few weeks I returned it and paid $20 for the LG Xenon GR500 Cell Phone. It was the first time that I have ever spent money for a contract phone but I don’t regret spending the dough.
I like the LG Xenon GR500. Sheepishly I’ll admit I was drawn to the pretty blue color. But the clear touch screen, sliding keyboard, and physical lightness and comfort of the phone hooked me. The clarity of calls kept me. I was a happy customer – and still am. I think the LG Xenon is my favorite cell phone that I have ever had.
Some of the Xenon’s positive attributes include:
+ Touch keypad with vibration response
+ 2.0 Megapixel Camera and Camcorder with Flash
+ 4-Line QWERTY Keyboard
+ microSD™ Memory Port
+ Bluetooth® Connectivity
+ Music Player
+ Enhanced User Interface
+ Web enabled
Phone Specs (according to LG’s website):
Technology GSM
Frequency GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (Quad-Band)
Data Transmission GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA 3.6Mbps
Weight 3.81 oz.
Display 65K Color TFT, 240 x 400 Pixels, 2.80”
Battery 950 mAh Li-Ion
Usage Time Up to 4 Hours
Standby Time Up to 11 Days
Honestly, I never use the music player or web stuff. I don’t text either but have played with typing messages back and forth with my niece. I like how easily my big fingers can manipulate the keyboard. At first, I didn’t think it would work because it looks so small but it does well and I like the tactile feel.
More importantly, calls are clear. I have no trouble hearing and being heard via regular or speaker phone. No echo! Making and receiving calls is uncomplicated too – once you are familiar with the sensitive touch screen. Navigation isn’t difficult but it takes some practicing. Sometimes scrolling goes a little awry with my bumble fingers but is usually easy enough to complete. And I’ve even managed to customize the screen with a favorite photo and a few shortcuts.
My only complaint is the battery doesn’t last as long as my Motorola W90 did. Still, it isn’t bad. I get a week or more before I have to recharge. Minor quibble aside, I’m happy with the LG Xenon. I highly recommend it.
