LaCie d2 External CD-RW Burner

LaCie CD-RW drives allow you to quickly and easily record, write and play CDs at amazing speeds for an external drive. It writes a CD-R at 52x, will re-write a CD-RW at 24x and reads up to 52x. Although this drive is shipped with some software it is pretty much like all the other software shipped with CD burning drives and is horrible. For the PC, the version of easy CD creator that is sent out has some flaws in it and will a) hold on to your CD until it feels it has finished, which is a major issue when you stop burning in mid-process (which we all have done) since it will not let go even with the manual over-write. and b) it will disable all your other CD burning software because of the auto-loading program hop in the system registry that most users do not know how to get rid of, my recomdation, do not install the software shipped with it, use your own. The advantage to this drive is that it is "hot-plug" which means you do not need to start your computer up again, you can plug it in while it is running and burn. This is of course with firewire sine usb can't even see speeds like this. However, with running the firewire at such a high speed, there is a larger risk of loosing data in the transfer, as that risk is raised as soon as you start to transfer data threw any type of external wire at more than 50% of it's max. Overall, not a bad drive but, it would be better and cheaper to go with the internal drive; if you feel you need an external then this probably the one to get.
