La Crosse WT-5442U Atomic Projection Alarm (no radio)

Pros Atomic Clock Syncs up to WWVB. Excellent clear projection. ElectroLuminescent display nice and clear.
Cons Temperature probes way off, both inside and outside. Cannot turn of temperature display.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Great Projection, but you have to learn to ignore the temperature display. However the EL backlight is very good. Unit does not have a radio, ignore radio rating.
I got this alarm after returning a lacrosse WT-5270 because I wasn't happy with the backlight. See http://www.epinions.com/content_273263398532. This clock has a different type of backlight, which is an ElectroLuminescent (EL) style. This EL backlight is much better. Crisp, clear and even. There is a slight hum when it's being displayed, but this is not an issue as it only displays for 10 seconds or so at a time. The projection feature is the best part of this clock. It is crisp, and clear and just the right intensity as to not be distracting to sleep.

Overall the functions are similar the the WT-5270, but this also has outdoor temperature with a remote unit. This brings up the main problem with this unit. I have owned it for two weeks now and the Temperature unit outdoors reads anywhere between 7-14 degrees farenheit too high, always. The indoor temperature reads a consistent 6 degrees to high. I have carefully set the remote probe and the clock up following exact instructions, and it makes no difference, both temperatures are simply inaccurate. Furthermore, you cannot turn the outdoor temperature display off. The WT-5270's temperature display also consistently read high, but this wasn't a problem as it could be turned off.
