Have you ever heard of the expression, ?As cheap as a nickel whistle?? Well, if you have not, let me introduce you to the LabTec LCS-150 1.35-watts Speakers. The sound is nothing to brag about; it?s the typical boxy speaker sound that you get from a pair of cheapies thrown into your PC box.

The system really does not bring out the textures in my computers audio sound system. When using the LCS-150?s it?s extremely hard to differentiate between the high-end sounds like cymbals and chimes and the low-end sounds. Ironically, these speakers live up to their name, because they are truly low-end speakers, you can hear the limits of their digital compression each time you use them.

Unfortunately for the consumer there are a lot of sonic imperfections with these LCS-150?s. I though that great sound was suppose to be a clear, and rich sensory experience? Regrettably, LabTec takes the consumers down a glossy expensive slippery slop cutting corners just for their profit margin.

The speakers have fallen off my desk several times, due to the bottom of each speaker being pure plastic with no tiny rubber stoppers to prevent them from sliding. No matter where I sit them, somehow one of the mysteriously end up being knocked on the floor. Regardless of the other features not having these little stoppers at the bottom of speakers is a poor and unfortunate engineering choice for LabTec. On a good note, the solid plastic construction has not chipped or cracked.

Like a $5.00 Radio/Cassette Headphone at Walmart, LabTec layered these shoddy speakers with bass boost, an on/off power switch, volume control and a small side control panel.

Unfortunately these features are fancy decorations when the speakers don?t function properly. You can?t boost the bass, or control the volume unless you have the AC Adapter or four C batteries, which does not come with it. When I first bought these speakers I was purchasing C batteries like fresh fruit, which increasingly became an extremely expensive habit. Not only has replacing 4 C batteries become expensive, but the bulky Radio Shack AC Adapter cord does not fit or work properly.

The LCS-150?s manufacturer boast of a frequency response of 80Hz-16Hz, power output of 1.35 watts RMS, with two 8 ohms speakers, unfortunately all of this falls on deaf ears (no pun intended) especially if the system never gets any juice. Without the batteries or AC cord the sound is horrible.

Every day I dial into the Internet the speaker?s scream, ?WELCOME TO COMPUSERVE? when I play a CD it?s almost inaudible which makes me scream, ?Can you hear me now!, Can you hear me now! Can you hear me now!? Sadly, my listening experience, whether playing CD-ROMs, music or games is unspeakable (once again, no pun intended).
