I am not computer savvy, although I work with computer for hours a day. After I bought my new Compaq desktop I couldn't figure out why there was no sound. Well maybe I need speakers, I thought. So I borrowed some old ones from my friend. Well they didn't work. I went to the store to buy the cheapest speakers I could find (The Labtec LCS-150 speakers were only $15.) I brought them home and they didn't work either. Well apparently I needed batteries (even though I had never seen speakers for stereos that needed a power outlet or batteries). Voila!
The speakers are fine. I have listened to CDs and live Webcasts without any complaint. Unless you are planning on replacing your stereo system, I wouldn't recommend spending any more than the $15 I spent. In fact, I don't understand why these speakers didn't come with the computer in the first place. (Compaq speakers come with monitors and Hewlett Packard speakers come with the CPU. With my combo I ended up speaker-less.)
