I built my own computer a while back and needed a set of speakers to complete the system. I wanted an average set of speakers with a subwoofer. My main concern when shopping around was price. After buying all the parts to build the computer my cash supply was running low.

I shopped around for a while and looked at the Best Buy and Circuit City sale bills. I had been told that Altec Lansing made some nice speakers that sounded great. I found some Altec Lansing speakers that I liked but they were $10 more than the Labtec 2414 speakers. Being cheap and running low on money I decided on the Labtecs.

I got home and easily hooked the speakers up. They sounded great. They had quality sound and a deep bass that really thumped. One of the satellite speakers has a volume dial but that is the only controls the speakers have. It would have been nice if they had more controls for adjusting the sound but you get what you pay for. At the time I thought I had bought the perfect speakers for me.

The speakers worked great for about three months. After that the subwoofer developed a short and would not work or make a loud hissing noise of the speakers. Being cheap had come back to haunt me.

Overall these speakers worked great for a while. If you get a set that doesn't develop any problems then you are getting a great value. Unfortunately my subwoofer quit working after three months. I would be very leery about buying another set.
