yup, it works
Pros
The best way to watch movie files off a hard drive onto a TV.
Cons
Bad remote. Lots of overscan using composite (yellow/red/white) cables.
Recommended it?
Yes
Other than the remote, this is a quality piece of equipment. I have thrown quite a range of movie file types at this, and the only thing it has choked on is .wmv files (ie, what you get when using Windows Movie Maker). The ability to fast forward up to 8x makes watching them much easier than using a computer and mouse. No crashing or dealing with OS errors while watching stuff!
I highly recommend using a teachable universal remote with this, Logitech makes some nice ones. The hard drive on/off and 'switch to DVD' buttons need to be taught if you want to swap between the two.
If you want to watch anything subtitled, you'll need a TV that does not overscan AND component (red/green/blue) cables. I don't think many HDTVs have this problem, but old CRTs generally overscan a good 20%, cutting off the bottom and thus your subtitles.
