The Bottom Line:
This camera belong's on any serious enthusiast's short list when looking for a small, 2nd camera
I'm a confirmed SLR user now for the past 28 years (and throw in an M-3). Vacation usually meant lugging around a bag with 6 or more lenses, a Luna Pro, and sometimes, a tripod. You, I wasn't exactly packing light. Last year I finally got tired of all this and decided to look into a small camera. My requirement was simple- the camera would have to be good enough for chromes, which I almost always use on vacation. This camera fits the bill nicely. Simply said, I bought this camera for the lens. The pictures come out nice and sharp. I wouldn't say that the lens is the last word on contrast, but my past experience with Leica lenses is that this is typical. It's nice to have some manual control of the aperture and focus, but frankly, I usually leave it on Auto. My only beef concerns the flash- I find that you really need to use 400 speed film if you intend to use the flash, which is slow to recycle and is of limited range. Plus, I don't think the shutter speed range is extensive enough to allow the use of 400 speed film outside if it's bright and sunny. Use it within its limitations, and it's a fine camera, a nice supplement, but no replacement, for my Nikons.
