Weird problems
I only had one strange problem with this router at a customer site in Mississippi...it would intermittenly crash! There was nothing to explain why this was happening. I trusted it ... but lately it let me down.
Had mine since about 2004 .... now is the end of 2009 .... so that makes it about 5y old.
Over the years I believed in this unit and trusted it .... even when wierd things started happening on the link to the WAN last year, I kept blaming the telco for droping packets and terminating...

We named our BEFSR81 "Linky".
The Linksys BEFSRR81 Cable/DSL Router is a great idea. Basically, when you have a cable modem or DSL connection...you can only have 1 IP address. This means only one computer can be connected to the Internet at one time.

Was so worthless we returned it within a week
We bought this router thinking it must be good because of its name. Well we were very wrong. We had it for 3 weeks and EVERY day of those 3 weeks the router would cut off for a couple seconds each day. avoid this router if you can. go with any other brand. don't waste your money.
i have had this router for about one year. i have used it to share my connection to a network at a large university and to share the connection to my cable modem. it worked fine out of the box, and continued to work for about 8 months. now it cannot provide connectivity for more than a few hours... Very easy to set up and start surfing!
This router only took a few minutes to install and configure. I was pleasantly surprised. The in-tool network manager took only a few seconds to figure out, and then it was ready to go.

Warrenty not honored
Be aware that Linksys/Cisco is not honoring warranties on their low-end routers. Routers such as the BEFSR81 and BEFSR41 (4 and 8 input units) fail often. Those in Newegg.com rate them poorly.
