Good Buy

The Bottom Line:  Buy it.
Bought mine May2009, never had to reset it, no outages, attached to a NetGear router.      I, too, get many false positives on motion detection and simply put up with it.    I have it set to create 3-second ASF videos on motion detection and have em upload to my webhost, probably get 20-200 per day, less if pointed indoors.

When I download em to my WinXP PC, I have Windows Explorer generate thumbnails, which helps me to weed out which captures are false/duds.

Video-Frame-Change motion detection is not the best, but the heat based motion detection in some cameras have issues also.  VFC works when the camera is behind a window, though.

Set at 320x240 color, no audio, each ASF file averages about 250kb. I have a fast connection, so uploads are fast, however, sometimes detections are missed, perhaps because the camera's Linux system is busy, maybe because of the network, or maybe generating the ASF file.    Better logging would be help spot system wait issues.

640x480, IMHO, is no better than 320x240, just produces larger ASF files.

Documentation is excellent, and admin webpages are well laid out.

I'm looking to go to external motion detectors, maybe InfraRed beams, to reduce false detections, but I'll have to have a system that allows external triggers.   For now, for $99, the WVC54GCA is a great buy and a great way for the average consumer to ease into home monitoring.
