Great machine!
Pros
Quality, price, ease of use. Great recordings!
Cons
Too minor to mention. Maybe some more tips in the manual.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
It's a great machine. Good price, functionality, quality.
I've had my 5045 for a few days now.
It works great and I have had none of the problems mentioned before. It came with firmware rev 0197 which I used for a couple of days with no problems. I tested the timer functions, defrag, etc., as complained about here. The timer worked fine several times and after I defragged I did not lose any files.
I then upgraded the firmware to 0203 by making a CD from the Lite On website. Easy enough. You have to do Setup again, but I still did not lose any files which I though I might during this type of upgrade. I don't see any difference, but assume there must be some benefit 6 revs later.
I have no complaints.
Minor stuff:
1) why do you have to turn the recorder off when setting the Timer function.
2) Nav buttons a little small, but still okay
3) Some functions should exit without having to Enter--there's nothing else that you could do.
I ordered a universal remote (URC 8910) from Amazon which I have not received yet. I assume I'll have to do some programming to make it work, but will probably still use the stock remote when recording, setting up the timer, etc., because the universal remote will probably never do it quite as efficiently. I just want it while viewing TV and recoded progs.
Don't think you can go wrong here. Good price, good function.
Neat toy. I have used Lite On drives for years in new computers with never any problem. They make a quality product.
