The Bottom Line:
5 stars until it dies
I loved this machine the first time so much I bought another one. It's easy, high quality transfers, everything you do can be done by remote with one or two buttons. It is amazing. I used it every day and it was the best recorder combo ever. It read everthing, it transferred everything, never missed a recording, great features, easy to use don't even need the book for 99% of use. Only negative at the beginning is there is a limited number of timer recordings available (6 I think). So if you are going on vacation for a week you get 6 programs -that's it.
Then it became the worst. One day it stopped reading +rw discs - I always used +R and +RW in this machine because it was so easy. Would't read a pre-recorded disc from it's own recording. So I watched them on my other player and kept recording. Then it stopped reading blank discs of any kind. No more recording. Then it started frying any disc it would read so the video was wiped. Now it is a VCr with dvd player that only reads commercial dvd's and only high-end ones that it likes. Doesn't read b/w old films that have just come out on dvd - odd.
Even worse - The exact same thing happended on the second one within two weeks of the first.
This all happened in under one year. I contacted lite on by email and surprisingly they responded within 48 hours. They emailed me recommended disc brands to use and claimed that was the problem. I bought three more types of discs that could only be found online and none worked. None were returnable because they were opened and discs had been ruined.
Wrote them again - this time no reponse.
The BIGGEST bummer - I've lost my favorite machine EVER. I won't risk buying another because it will likely fail too.
IF it continues working for anyone who has it, it is a 5 star machine by far. But not as a doorstop or large dvd player/vcr.
