Lite On LVW-5001 DVD Recorder

The main reason I bought this particular machine was because it supports both plus and minus formats. It wrote just fine for awhile but then got picky about the media - now it won't play or write even on media it played and wrote on the week before. Yes, have used recommended media. In lieu of recordings, after less than a year, it is now producing lots of lots of shiny coasters.
Very easy to set up and use. Easy Guider for programming is truly easy. Virtually no difference in playback quality between HQ, SP and EP recording times - might as well use a VCR if you want to cram 6 hours on one disk.
Lite On's website is almost as worthless as it's customer support, which is essentially nonexistent. I understand that Lite On has a lot of experience in burners for computers that people who know a lot about computers use but they have quite a bit to learn about how to treat (or not treat) regular, ordinary, every day consumers.
If you can afford to shell out around $150 for a new one every 6 months or so, then by all means, go right ahead. If not, might be a brand to avoid until they get their consumer electronics act together.
