Lite On LVW-5116GHC DVD Recorder

. I have been waiting for a unit like this to come our for a while now, and now that I have one I am happy as I thought I would be.
. I no longer have to worry about rewinding tapes, eating tapes, or storing tapes. I got this one on a whim because I was so impatient for a device like this to come out that was also affordable, and this one was at a good price at a good time. Fortunately it has also been a very good choice so far. It does what it is suppose to and does it well.
. I keep a half used DVD-R in it all the time on purpose because I can continue to record more on that same DVD until it is finalized. A feature I am happy with. The unfinished DVD can be viewed by this unit only even though it has not been finalized, but it wont play in other DVD players until the disk has been finalized.
. Thats ok though. At least I don't have to waste a whole DVD on a half hour show my daughter wanted to record. I can still fill it up with more junk and finalize it later. We can even each have our own disk and fill it up with our own shows as they come on. You can also remove the unfinished DVD and watch another DVD yet return the unfinished one when you're done with no consequences. This might be a common feature on most DVD recorders but non-the-less I like it.
. It has both front and back inputs which is a plus and the remote is pretty full featured as well but some will have to pick up the manual and learn it all over again. I does have a few different functions than a VCR remote.
. The tuner is good, and recognizes my digital cable stations just fine without a cable box.
. I used the timer only once or twice and find it too much like a VCR to say much about it. Again, it works!
. In short, I like it. It did what I wanted it to, and thats getting me out of that VHS mayhem I am glad to say good bye to, and takes me into a digital area I am finding much more practical.
