One day in the distant past (I believe it was February 2000,) I took a trip. To cut a long story short, I found myself in my local computer store. Not really shopping for anything in particular but just kind of browsing around. Eventually I ended up at the shelves that had a bunch of keyboards arranged on it for display and tryouts. I noticed one board had the keystroke feel that I liked and the angle of the split board felt good. This got my curiosity going and upon further inspection I noticed it was cordless and came with a cordless mouse. Also, I found it to be made by a company that I?ve dealt with in the past and I am presently using a marble mouse made by them.
Ok, enough with the story telling, you already know it was the Logitech Cordless Desktop Pro. I have added this to my ?one of the best buys in a long time list? and now to the details.
KEYBOARD: The gently curved pad is a convenient place to relax your hands during typing breaks. It?s easy to remove when you want the extra space. The split, gently curved keyboard layout is designed to make typing easier and more comfortable.
The cordless iTouch keyboard comes with an advanced DIGITAL RADIO technology, which provides reliable performance in a six-foot range around your computer. I haven?t personally tried out how far it will reach out but I have set back from the computer desk, leaned back in my chair with the keyboard on my lap and not noticed any problems. Plus, I had all kinds of books and papers cluttered around the receiver. This is so much better than infrared products.
The system is powered by two AA and two AAA batteries (included), which is supposed to supply power for an average of 6 months to a year. NOTE: I just changed the batteries in my mouse and it has been about 8 months. The keyboard and mouse comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
There are extra buttons at the top of the keyboard. Use the suspend key to put your computer into sleep mode, or other keys to access the internet, go to your web page, open email, or search with one touch of a key or launch your favorite applications. Plus, you have keys for using multimedia. Play CDs, MP3 and Windows media files and DVDs, mute and change volume using easy one-touch controls.
MOUSE: This is one innovative mouse. The contoured shape enhanced with unique soft-touch material provides maximum comfort and control. It has a wheel to speed up Web browsing, easily reading long e-mail messages, or for moving quickly through documents in Windows applications without having to click on scroll bars. Also, zoom in Microsoft Office 97, Microsoft Office 2000. I especially like the thumb button that I?ve programmed for double click. I do not recommend this product for left handed people.
Installation was about as easy as you can get. Logitech does a great job explaining how to install the product.
Just about a year and I'm still very happy with this product.
