Big piece of junk

Pros Many features, Atheros chipset.
Cons Not Stable, firmware updates fix little.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Do not buy this, get a linksys or a buffalo
I got this router over Christmas in 03 and also a Microsoft wireless card (mn-720) at the same time. Initially the router was working fine with its current firmware (2.27) and i was using standard 128bit encryption. The setup was relatively quick and the network was stable, but the features of the Atheros chipset (packet bursting etc.) were not available. I went and updated to 2.37 Firmware and that's when the problems began.

The router could not hold a wireless connection very long, maybe 12 hours but then it would disconnect and reconnect without warning. I could not have that, I needed a stable connection. I went back to 2.27 and everything was fine again. 2.41 and 2.42 (current version) were both the same old story of the wireless connection not being stable at any range.

Now I'm not asking for bleeding-edge performance, but I want to use WPA-PSK and that is not possible in 2.27, so now i use 2.42 and it crashes enough to make me seriously consider only using this as a wired hub (for which it works fine).

I have tried many different methods for flashing the firmware, as well as the settings themselves, I did not have this problem with the MN-700 (Microsoft) G-router, and i am beginning to regret this purchase.

I would warn everyone to stay away from this router, and D-Link in general, get a linksys or a Buffalo, save yourself this misery.
