Not as good as expected!!!
Pros
Slightly better signal strength
Cons
Lack of some important functions
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Recommended for simple home network and share internet but not for some serious network environment.
Every thing has got its good and bad side but DI-624 disappointed me a lot. I'm from UK so don't know about the US version of DI-624 but I don't think it'll make a big difference. Bought it just three days back and had to send it back yesterday. May be (unfortunately) I got a faulty one but what I understand, for simple internet and file shearing it is okay but not appropriate if you want to make a bit serious network.
Functions
There are a few lack of functions; The UK version of DI-624 (firmware 1.23) does not support stabtic DHCP yet, so no chance to create a mixed environment .
What they called as Virtual Server, which is actually Port Forwarding, did not work properly for me. I found myself unable to forward port 80 (HTTP) successfully; it was being failed again and again specially after changing some settings. The only way I found to bring it back into work after stop responding, is to delete the virtual server entry for HTTP and recreate.
If you fancy any particular NTP server, you may or may not use that due to the input character restriction in server name space. With the predefined time zones (w/w out day-light saving), mine one was showing the time an hour late.
The signal strength is slightly better (at least better then Buffalo WBR-54G). I was getting a 3-bar signal from the kitchen while WBR-54G rarely gives me a 3-bar; normally it gives 2.
Technical Support
For some unknown reason, it was being disconnected from internet often, again specially after changing some settings. So finally it goes to D-Link technical support; to be honest, I did not experience any excellent (or just fair) support from them.
Update: The guy, I talk to that day, told me that some body from their second level technical support going to call me to discuss this problem. They did, alas!! Someone one call me after five days when I already started using Buffalo WBR-54G sending that one back to the dealer. They just don't understand that this kind of peripherals is not just a showpiece; those are for some real everyday work to do. Therefore it's not sensible to put you hold for long.
As I told, may be it was a faulty unit so you may not get the same result but I am switching back to Buffalo again and already ordered one today.
