SoundMan X2: A Small, Potent Setup
Pros
Pretty Good Sound; Inexpensive; Look Nice and Fit Well in Small Places; Good Rear Channel Speakers
Cons
Not Very Powerful; Automatic on-off annoying
Recommended it?
Yes
I obtained these speakers in a deal on EMusic.com in which I bought $25 worth of MP3s and received these speakers for free. It seemed like a good deal, so I went for it. Well, it turns out that I am very happy with these speakers and how I am using them. Let me explain:
Sound
These speakers, while not very powerful, have a pretty good sound quality. They can't always produce accurate mid-range, but that is expected considering the size of the speakers. The bass is acceptable from the tiny sub, and it is pretty tight.
Setup
Setting up these speakers was simply plugging them in.
It was also very easy to find a place to put them. They are very small and fit in tight spots - even the sub. They are also pretty stylish.
Feature(s)
I can't really say that there are that many "features" with these speakers. There is a bass control on the back of the sub. Mostly, though, they just play sound. One feature that is kind of annoying is the automatic on-off. They turn off after a certain amount of time with no sound, and then they turn back on again when sound comes back through the line. The only problem is that you miss the first second of whatever sound they play when they first turn back on. Also, if the line level (volume level on the line) isn't very high, they might not even turn on at all. All that is needed to fix that is to raise the line level and turn the speakers down. That's just a small quirk though.
Using them in an application
I am currently using these as rear channel speakers in conjunction with my Creative Sound Blaster Live! Value (a surround sound output sound card) as well as my Altec Lansing ADA-305 speakers in the front channel.
