The DMC-FZ4 is a GREAT buy for the money.
I'll address general concerns from a general photography fan. I'm not super deep into the world of photography but i do enjoy to take pictures and do so a great deal. So for the more 'casual' enthusiast, here are the pros and cons of the FZ4:

Good but too many options
The best shooting mode for beginners is probably not the default "beginners" or "don't think" mode.
It's probably rather an adaptation of the "Speed" priority mode even for beginners. (The S on the mode selector)

Awesome - !!
Bought several cameras and returned them all - Bought this camera and I must say - it is the bomb...pictures are excellent ..love the the speed capture option and the multi-shots (8/speed captures in 1 second) bla bla bla...great bang for the buck.

Great Camera, Great Image Quality, Great Zoom
This camera is everything the advertisements say it is. The only thing I would recommend is that less experienced photographers should stick with the automatic scene modes or the picture modes. Not the world's best but a Best Buy
This is probably the smallest SLR-style P&S on the market, and it gives you top-notch P&S performance, not SLR performance, which could cost thousands rather than the $300 or so this costs.
