Excellent Studio Monitor for the Price
Pros
Clean, wide stereo image. Great highs and basic bass. Compact!
Cons
A bit weak on sub-bass, but who cares... get a subwoofer!
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Hey- there are a million monitors out there, but for a well built, reputablely manufactured and great sound- MKII!
This can be very subjective; keep in mind that, for most studio uses, these are outstanding monitors. Want to have a house party? Wrong speaker, wrong product, wrong period. I have my MKII's plugged into a synthesizer stack, and find that they have exceptionally good top and middle, very clear without being harsh, The low end is suprising for the small drivers, but sub-bass suffers a bit. Alesis makes the S1 to add, and kick out some mid and sub out of the monitors themselves to clear things up. The inputs are a XLR / 1/4 TRS mix, balanced, and each has an individual power cord. These are sold as amatched pair, and have very easy set-up. Yes, they can be overdriven, even with their powerful bi-amps, but that's the point; they're designed to show you where your music is overdriving, for most systems. Great sound, beautiful stereo image, and for the $300 or so that most places sell the par, and absolute steal. A KRK-5 doesn't even come close, and costs more. The KRK-8 has more bass, but is also about twice as much for a pair. These baby's are compact and sound great! I would only reccomend that you purchase a quality monitor stand; these monitors are very solid and heavy, and will transmit vibrations to a surface. Buy 'em!
