The Bottom Line:
For the price it delivers great quality and sound!
The Pioneer DEH-P3700MP is a great buy for under $150, made to upgrade your vehicle factory radio. This is an AM/FM/CD player with power and it supports satellite radio with an optional tuner. This is an attractive unit with a multicolor LED display and it has a detachable faceplate for security. There is no carrying case for the detachable faceplate with this model.
Radio
The DEH-P3700MP uses a Supertuner IIID, which locks in the station that you are listening to without interface from a strong station on either side of the frequency. With digital processing the tuner cuts down in distortion for better sound quality. You can program in up to 24 stations, 18 FM stations and 6 AM stations.
The unit has 22 watts RMS x 4 a channel, (50 watts peak) which gives it a rich clear sound. The display looks great with a clock showing that can be turned off or on and the display shows the name of your radio station, the artist and song being played if your station broadcasts this information.
CD
The CD player will play your music CDs, along with MP3, WMA and WAV from a CD-R and CD-RW disc. It is nice to see the CD text as it is playing a song. The display shows up to 8 characters (longer than 8 characters are scrolled to see all of the text.) and you can store up to 100 discs into memory.
According to the manufactures specifications; the player uses a 3-beam laser pickup with automatic gain control. It has a 1-bit Digital to Analog converter with 8x sampling. You can fast forward or reverse the music while it is playing.
Other Technical Information
It is compatible with Pioneer's iPod interface adapter.
CD frequency response of 5-20,000 Hz
CD signal-to-noise ratio of 94 dB
FM sensitivity of 8 dBf
A 3-Band Parametric Equalizer
One year Warranty
Add-ons
When buying a radio for a vehicle you should always think about what you may want to add in the future. The DEH-P3700MP is made to add a CD-changer and Satellite Radio. This radio can control the optional Pioneer XM or SIRIUS tuner, which gives you the choice of both satellite systems.
Remote
The unit comes with a small wireless remote that is small and easy to use. It is a basic remote that does most of the major features that you need to make away from the radio.
Personally I don't have a need for a wireless remote for my radio on my vehicle.
Installation
For the price and quality built-in it is a bargain. For any installation there is always the added cost of a wiring harness and a possible dash plate depending on your make and model; so the cost will go up. Now do you want to install it yourself or have someone do it for you?
When you install it yourself you can look for the best price and then install it. When you want someone to install it, the price can come with an additional installation cost or some offer free installation. Most places that offer free installation have a higher cost of the radio of $20 to $30, but that is usually cheaper than if they charge you $50 to install it, so shop around.
I have installed many units and I find installation is rather easy, but it can be time consuming.
My Thoughts
I helped a friend install the unit a few weeks ago with ease, since all we did was replace his radio from a 1999 Tahoe Blazer. We used the factory installed speaker system of two up front and two in the rear. At first I thought the radio might have too much power for the stock speakers, was I surprised. The sound was crisp and clear, at half the volume we were getting the neighbors looking our way because of the incredible sound. I did recommend to my friend to keep it at or below half volume so it would not blow the factory speakers.
The radio was easy to use; I was impressed at how much better it locked in FM stations than compared to a factory radio. I listen to a rock station from Louisville Kentucky, 93.1 the "FOX" and that is about 50 miles from me. The FOX radio station comes and goes in my area, but the Pioneer DEH-P3700MP locked it in with perfect reception, even while driving around.
The factory CDs played beautifully with a rich clear sound. CDs with MP3s sounded good and worked well with the unit, but a store bought CD sounds the best. The CD text worked for the store bought CD, but it didn't work from the recorded MP3 CD. I figure the MP3 CD wasn't recorded to read the text.
Everything needed for installation cost my friend around $165 and two hours for us to install it; he is very happy with it. Yes, he got free installation from me! My friend came by today, which reminded me to write this review; so far he said it is the best investment he has added to his Blazer, he is very happy with the quality and performance.
