The Bottom Line:
I highly recommend this unit in this price range. The equalizer and sound quality are superb. You'll find some minor quirks but nothing to prevent the purchase.
What's really nice about this unit is the equalizer. I found myself finding only treble and bass controls on other units in this price range. This Pioneer gives you treble, bass and mid. Each is placed properly in the frequency range. This means that you usually don't have any setting all the way up to the max or down to the min. When changing from the tuner to a cd/mp3 to the aux. (satellite radio), you have the ability to adjust each to make them sound really good.
Even though the unit doesn't have rca inputs in the rear, you can get an adapter for about $25 that plugs into the cd changer control that will give you rca inputs. I use this for my satellite radio since I already had a tuner. You can also buy a specific satellite tuner and run it directly through the stereo. This will let you control the stations directly on the unit instead of a separate tuner being mounted somewhere on the dash. You could connect an mp3 player to these rca inputs as well with some cable adapters.
The tuner on this unit was about the same as my factory unit and better than the Sony unit I had purchased just prior to the Pioneer.
The comment on the volume knob from a previous review is a good one. This is the most annoying quirk on this unit. You literally have to turn the knob around 3-4 times to get from low to high. 1-2 would be nice.
