Magellan 500 GPS Missing the Trajectory
Pros
Interface is nice and the unit is light and compact.
Cons
Very incompatible with my PC (Windows XP Pro) and downloading maps is a chore.

The Bottom Line:
Don't bother with Magellan, stick with Garmin and spend the extra $$. The Triton is not worth the headache.
First I bought the 300 model but had so many problems linking it to my XP desktop, that I upgraded to the 500. The interface is great but the unit itself is a waste. When I fire up the system, it shows me that I'm in San Dimas, CA. Well, I live in Bend, Oregon so that should tell you the quality of the unit. I just found out that the place I purchased if from (a large sports chain) sent all Magellan Triton series back due to poor quality. I should have listened to my friends and stuck with the etrex. I would have paid more but I also would have been able to pin-pint my location.
In all fairness, I'm not an experienced GPS user and this was my first purchase. However, I spent a day with my friends etrex Garmin Legend Hcx and it was pretty simple to get the hang of. The Magellan was okay but the navigation buttons seem 2nd rate and I wouldn't be surprised if they fall off. The unit time continues to be off, even when I change it. This may be because of user error and I'll accept that but what I don't accept is the poor quality of this unit. I'll be sticking with Garmin in the future.
I called Magellan multiple times to work with me on this but their hold times are so pathetic, it's not worth the time. Sorry Magellan, you missed it on this one.
