Magnavox MRV660 DVD Recorder

Our 1st DVD recorder. Some headaches when attempting to initially set this unit up in our multi-component system. Not for the techno-challenged, for sure. 800# manufacturer hotline no help at all, won't explain how to hook up with various components due to "liability" issues, but with some persistence & patience it can be done. We added this recorder to a DVD/VCR combo player, Aiwa stereo & surround sound system, with a cable box. Later was able to add another DVD player, again with some patience & persistence. Overall performance was great. Until...after only 7 months of ownership, we wanted to watch and record a DVD & it played in black & white. Began to troubleshoot & decided to "re-boot" by unplugging all cables & power cord. From there it was "No Signal Detected". We then tried to move the cables to the front jacks and all was working well again. Who wants cables sticking out of the front of their unit? We knew the jacks in the back must have given up the ghost & we had a service agreement from Best Buy. We brought the unit in & much to our dismay, the unit is no longer serviceable per the manufacturer. We were told to pick something else. For only 7 months of service on a fairly new market unit, we thought this was unacceptable. We do not recommend that you buy this unit strictly because of the short time frame before it crapped out & the lack of serviceability from the manufacturer.
