Freezes in the middle, no firmware update yet available as of July 9

Bought the NB500MGX at Walmart. Played 3 out of 6 disks successfully. 3 disks froze in the middle of the movie and would dump us back to the main menu when trying to resume by selecting a scene close to the freeze point.
Magnavox website (and phone support) has never heard of this model number, even though they've been highly advertised through Walmart over the last few weeks.
Phone support said the prior model NB500MG9 had a similar freezing model on Disney disks -- smack in the middle. No firmware upgrade yet available.
