No regrets about the purchase, would buy it again.
Stereophile magazine rates this player "Class A" alongside players selling for several thousand dollars. They did not exaggerate. It lists for $1099 but is widely available for less. It plays CDs, SACDs, and dual discs (which are both on one disc.) The player recognizes what you have put in the drawer and sets itself accordingly. It plays CDs quietly, smoothly, and without noticeable distortion. I hear details and clarity on my old CDs that I never heard before, but the sound is not overly analytic. It just plays the music. SACDs do sound better than conventional CDs, but this player is so good with CDs that you may be satisfied with CDs.
If you insert an SACD it plays it as such. One annoyance is that SACDs all have 5 channels of surround sound and the player tries to play them that way. If you have a 2-channel stereo as I have, you must push a button before playing each disc to tell it to play in 2 channel. It's easy to do but I wish it could be set to stay in the 2-channel condition every time, leaving the option of switching to multichannel in the future if desired. This is a small quibble and definitely not a reason to hesitate.
I like products that give better performance than you have a right to expect for the price. This is certainly an example of this. It does surpass some $1800-2000 players I auditioned. I have no regrets.
