This is actually a SACD player. If you are not familiar with SACD, it is a high-resolution format designed by Sony and Philips to supersede the CD, so far with limited success. High end sound for a mid-fi price
Stereophile magazine rates this player "Class A" alongside players selling for several thousand dollars. They did not exaggerate. It lists for $1099 but is widely available for less.
