Barely better than toy binoculars

byjpsah Oct 29, 2004
Pros CHEAP, light gathering capability, light-weight
Cons Anyone looking for clear images? Grab something else!
Recommended it? No
1. The Construction is not Sturdy.
Behind the rubber skin, the tubes are plastic. Any drop (side-way, from any distance) can cause critical damage.

(Have you drop a pair on binoculars to the ground? Probably no, I guess)

2. The Optics are not Acceptable.
In bright day-time, if moved across the landscape, the image does not "move" smoothly. It shows some irregular variations.

(Yes, it is cheap; but it is not acceptable at any price.)

3. The Coating, Only Covered a few Surfaces.
The reflection from the objective lens show only one coated surface; while the rest are "white".

(However, as a occasional star-watcher, I don't feel anything strange.)

4. Limited Information Available before Purchase was made.
I couldn't find enough information regarding this binoculars. After arrival, I noticed "Bk7" is marked outside the box.

(As a consumer, decision-making was not easy.)

5. The Prisms Quality??
Since it is BK7, the diamond-shaped shadows in the eye-lens are so significant, and thus blurred the image. It can never reach the sharpness as a Nikon, for which I also owned. Besides, it gets worse as farther away from the center.

(Frustrated, ...)
