The Bottom Line:
Better then a few, worst then most
The F4180 does everything you would want from a standard out of the box all-in-one printer, Its not breaking any page per-minuet speed record, around four to five pages per-minuet. The only problem is the manufacture skipped on the logic when it came to printer design. I received this printer when I purchased a new HP desktop from a top electronic retailer.
I opened the HP printer box and installed it with my new computer, with the printer came a power adapter that hooked to another cord which in return plugged into the wall outlet. This half was missing! After a lengthy search (one week later) I had learned that HP sealed the other half of the power cord inside the printer along with the ink.
This was of course partly my fault, but why not put it in the same plastic bag with the other accessories? Installing the ink was by no means a chore, it took me about ten minuets to properly install both color and black and white printer cartridges. Added to the fact there is barley enough room for a hand to reach the printer head reader. Unlike every other all-in-one I have used this printer could have better user access for maintenance, as well as an over all better design, scraped knuckles are bound to happen even when the user is familiar with cartridge replacement.
Installing the printer with my computer took less then a minuet, the scanner runs faster then most all-in-ones as well as printer start up time (about 10 seconds) the copy feature is about average. There was no conflict with Windows Vista or any other programs or active network devices.
In the end this printer-scanner-copier preformed more or less like a standard sub $100 all-in-one. The only question is it worth the hassle?
