Capture the view but not all the detail you see

Pros Combination camera and binocular.
Cons Very narrow field of vision.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  If you want great pictures at a distance, get a serious telephoto lens camera. I am giving an average rating for the binocular, but below for the camera part.
I love gadgets. This one seemed like a nice idea, take pictures of objects at a distance without the cost of an expensive telephoto lens. Well, like my mini Digicam, I was disappointed. The full specs are below, however in high res you can get 45 pics, while at low res you can get 100. I don't recommend the low res.

I found the field of vision quite narrow, even at a far distance, it is a bit like looking through a telescope. The other thing I noticed is that at a farther distance you can see details that the camera does not pick up. Last year on my vacation, I tried to take a picture of a plane taking off from the White Sands in New Mexico. I could see the plane clearly, but the picture shows this dot that looks like dirt in the center of the photo.

At a closer range, say in a sports arena, this camera will take photos of your favorite hockey, basketball, football, etc, stars (or if you are fast enough, an action play) with a reasonable clarity and focus. It's like taking close up shots at 50 feet.

The camera is very simple to use. It has two buttons, one for taking pictures and one to cycle through the options, e.g., high/low res, 10 second timer, erase/delete, etc. You cannot view the pictures until you download them onto a computer.

This is not a camera for serious photo buffs.

Here are the specs:
power = 8X,
Lens Diameter = 22mm,
Angle of view is 8.0 / 7.0 degrees,
Field of view = 400ft at 1000 yds,
Resolution comes in two flavors, 640 X 480 and 320 X 240,
Aperture = f/5.6 fixed lens,
Optimum range = 49 ft to infinity,
Memory = 8mb SDRAM.

It requires two AA batteries which you cannot leave in the camera when you are not using it. The right eye piece can be adjusted separately for those whose eyes do not focus exactly the same. Like most binoculars, the barrels can be pulled further apart or closer together to adjust to your face. It also comes with a carrying case that can be slipped onto your belt. It also comes with software drivers and a graphic app for Windows 98 on up.
