My search for a new monitor came up suddenly. I used Epinions.com reviews to thin out the competition and found the Envision 5100e on special at CompUSA for $289, with an additional manufacturer's rebate of $30 available.
Simple installation, lightweight, and the perfect size for an average desk, only taking up a space 8" deep by 16" wide. Standard energy-saving options, with picture quality defaults perfectly set (but easy to navigate should you ever need to...though I doubt you will). I didn't need to install the software drivers for Windows 98, although they were provided.
An amateur could set this monitor up with little difficulty, yet a seasoned computer user would be happy with its performance.
