XBox DVD Kit - Optimize Your Xbox

I would highly recommend this even if you already own a DVD player, works great
I'm sure that nobody expected the DVD player on the Xbox to play better than a machine made solely for the purpose of watching DVDs, however the high quality product that Microsoft has developed for the Xbox has me stunned.
Tell Me About The Kit
What comes with the kit? The kit comes in a fairly small package, not a whole lot bigger in length and width than a game and consists of a remote, and the receiver for the remote that plugs into a controller port.
The Remote - The remote is built sturdy, and looks very simple like a universal remote as you can see in the picture. The buttons are made of a rubberish material that is comfortable, yet solid. The remote is powered by 2 AAA batteries, I'm not sure how long they will last before needing replacement because I haven't used it long enough to know.
The buttons on the remote consist of a numeric keypad along with Display, Reverse, Play, Forward, Skip Backward, Stop, Pause, Skip Forward, Title, Info, Up, Down, Left, Right, Select, Menu, and Back. The only button that really needs explaining is the Display button. This button will pop up a menu where you can control settings like subtitle, zoom, clock, audio, language, that sort of thing.
The Receiver - As I said the receiver will go into the controller port, and any controller port for that matter. If you are somewhat lazy you can just leave it in, say the 4th controller slot, not sacrificing precious 1st slot space, and the kit will work just the same. When the receiver is inserted the Xbox will recognize a DVD when you boot up, similar to any other DVD player. Another thing is if someone knocks it out on accident, or for any other reason the receiver comes out you will simply be prompted to re-insert the receiver, you wont lose your spot in the movie or encounter any other problems.
What Kind Of Range Does This Unit Have?
The Range was very impressive. It claims 25 foot range which I agree with, although it will need to be lined up pretty good from 25 feet away, it works. When you are in the 10-15 foot range it will work pretty much always when it is just slightly pointed toward the receiver unless it is covered. Very Nice!
How Does it Look?
You can't expect a video game console to have the same picture as a strictly DVD player, and with so many other things to offer I have no problem with this. That said, the picture is not as good as the picture of a DVD player, however it is still very nice, you will have to focus on finding flaws to find them. Some cool features are things like zoom where you can zoom up to 10x the regular picture, a loop function which allows you to loop the movie over and over, and and automatic 6 hour shutoff which will turn it off if left idle for 6 hours. Some of these features are left out on DVD players, which is a plus.
Where the picture and the whole kit shines is compared to the Playstation 2's DVD playback. The DVD playback on the PS2 was not the quality of that on the Xbox, although you have to purchase this add on I think you'll agree with me that it is worth it. If you have watched DVDs on a PS2 then you know that it is actually noisy to play and can get annoying, it is very noticeable when it is quiet and even distracting at times. The Xbox plays DVDs smooth and quiet.
Conclusion
The Xbox DVD Kit is highly recommended even if you already have a DVD player, especially if they are located in two separate places. The quality of Microsoft and great features gets this product a rating of five stars!
