Microtek ScanMaker 9700XL Flatbed Scanner

I bought a Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL just over one year ago, the lamp doesn't work. I took it to Proscan, one of the distributor for the scanner, it took them a week to tell me it looks like a major part is not working properly. They suggest me to replace the part for $1700.

I used UMAX scanner before, they are very reliable and scan quality images. I bought Microtek because they own UMAX now. But they are nothing alike, the support and quality is just another inferior product that does not last.

I will not risk the $1700 again.
