Microtek ScanMaker
I bought a Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL just over one year ago, the lamp doesn't work. I took it to Proscan, one of the distributor for the scanner, it took them a week to tell me it looks like a major part is not working properly. They suggest me to replace the part for $1700.

Excellent Large Bed Scanner
When I was looking for a large scanner I was frustrated to find that most of them only offer 8.5" by 14" scan beds which just won't do when we scan X Rays. When a Large Bed is Necessary There is No Alternative
Microtek makes one of the only large format scanners on the market today, which concerned me as I don't like to see a monopoly as then product quality won't be job #1. 9800XL w/TMA
Our company bought this to replace the Linotype scanner we had for 5 years. We scan mainly positives, western blots, (radiograph film) as we are a non profit cancer research facility. Good scanner, bad support
I have the slightly older 9600XL, and they're actually up to the 9800 now. But I wanted to let people know two things that should apply to the whole line:
If you are concerned with color accuracy, I have had very good results with my scanner. With some hand tweaking I've used these scans...
