The Bottom Line:
look nobody who reads reviews wants a 500$ radio and everybody who does just wants the best for there money. If a two-way is what you want get these radio's
I just received my Midland radio's and after a quick trip to the park I must say that I am impressed. My daughter and I left the house and my wife stayed at home. My wife and I stayed in contact the intire time the batteries came charged (some how) and the radio's were ready to use right out of the box. I ordered the VP4 and I think it is a better deal all around. Everything works as advertised I haven't gotten to try out the 12 mile range but if I get at least 7 miles out of it I'll be pleased.
I mean come one these are 50 dallor radio's if you want crazy distance you might want to check out the 500$ radio's. But however this was my first test. And I would just like to add that even though it says that you have to have a licence to use channels 1-7 and 15-22 or whatever that I am going to go use them anyway because I think its crap ......ITS A WALKY TALKY!!!! For god's sake you can buy these things at wal-mart. If you use channels 7-15 you get some baby monitors so unless you like terrorizing mom's use the other ones I don't think the FCC is going to send out a witch hunt for independent walky-talky users I think they just say that to save face. And even if they do my two year old can out run a wheel chair and a walker because those are probubly the only people comeing after you. that's right I said it the only people who care are the ones on pace makers and have bad hip replacements. And if you got problems with that then you shouldn't sell radio's that go that high with out asking for proof of there licence you want my call sign buddy here it is K. M. A.
