Pros Beautiful pictures!
Cons Takes a while to learn what everything will do.

Point and shoot that is all you have to do. Built-in Flash, built in motor drive and automatic film loading, advancing and rewinding. You can point and shoot and you can make every detail that you want manually.

The camera weighs less than two pounds, has a good feel to it and is very... Read full review »

After reading many articles about new cameras and considering my old 9000 died and is not repairable, according to MINOLTA, I decided to buy the Minolta 800si. This camera is called the Dynax 800si in Europe.

I bought mine in Germany because of a great price (US$ 420, body only.)

I got my 800si in 1998 when my 7xi fell apart. I was immediately impressed with the solid feel of the body (it weighs in at over 600g or 21oz) and the chunky grip. The feel of this camera is great -- not too heavy, not too light; very well balanced. The build quality of the camera is good; although... Read full review »

I'll be going over the properties, features and characteristics of the new Minolta Maxxum 800si. In general, I'll cover how each of the systems work, what I like about it, and what I DON'T like about it. This appraisal will be as honest and straightforward as I... Read full review »

Among the three brands, Nikon and Canon are clearly selling at the premium to Minolta. For pros, it might make sense for them to choose Nikon or Canon for the better choice of lens. But there is absolutely no difference in optical result between the three, so why pay more if you just shoot for fun... Read full review »

Minolta has a fine line of cameras, but my favorite is the Minolta 800si. It's fast, quiet, and great on batteries. And speaking of batteries, minolta really improved on how long they will last. The camera is just plain wonderful. I've owned other cameras in the past, including minolta brands and... Read full review »

Have had mine for about 6 years now. Still works great.

Do use care with the side window, if it's open it could break off. It takes a little getting used to all the buttons but you'll learn.

Has many many pro features on it.

If you find one used get it, they should... Read full review »

After carefully reading reviews in ALL the magazines I decided this would be my next camera. My reasoning> If the pros liked it then chances are I would also.

After 60 rolls of film 100, 200, 400 and 800 I have proven to myself all the research had paid off. I LOVE this camera. Why? Sooo... Read full review »

Pros Beautiful pictures; simple to use in auto mode..
Cons A bit heavy and the AF/MF switch quit working and had to be replaced.

I've owned an 800si for 2 years and the pictures it takes are phenomenal. I recently visited Carlsbad Caverns and took several rolls of 800 speed film with it and they came out superbly! I use it with a Tamron 28-300mm lens which, for me, is a perfect companion for the 800si. This camera is a gem. Read full review »
