Great things come in ultra compact packages
Pros
Amazingly small and light. Superior optics. Sharp bright images. Looks as good as it works
Cons
Plastic body feels flimsy. So small using it takes practice.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Once you own this you may want to call Minolta to learn what sort of magic they used to manufacture such a quality optic in such a small package.
Despite the delicate plastic body this Minolta binocular is one hell of a performer. For this size and weight class I doubt there is anything out there that comes close to producing the bright sharp images you will get from the Minolta Ultra Compact III 8 x 18. When you see this remarkable binocular you will want to put a label with your name and address on it for identification. Odds are you may loose it is so small. It can literally get lost in your shirt pocket!!
It would have been nice if Minolta wrapped the Ultra Compact in an aluminized body but that might have raised the price point too much. In any case you will not be sorry buying this gem, just be prepared to practice using it and keep track of where you put it.
