The Bottom Line:
With all the advanced features found on high-end DVD players this can be the only player you will need at home and during travel.
Just got this player with a bonus multi-function bag and two pairs of headphones at Costco for $299. I need it to play videos to my son in the car. I was somewhat skeptical, initially, about this product (although it's 10.2 inches size screen). I bought one Mintek 8" player about a year ago, and didn't like it at all. I couldn't properly resize the video, options were scarce, etc., not even mentioning that it didn't play DivX, XviD content. Now, everything is different. Although, I missed reading about Mpeg-4 capabilities in the manual. I just tried to put one of the CDs with Mpeg-4 AVI and it started playing the file to my surprise. I tried Xvid and DivX -- all of them played very well, with sound. Zooming capability lets you resize your video if if you get black bars because of a specific movie ratio. All of the good options are available only from the thin remote control. Otherwise, buttons on the player will hardly let you explore all its potential. The player came with a bonus multi-function bag that lets you strap it to the front seat or come up with some other type of fixture. It has some pretty big compartments inside, a few straps with hooks, etc. The only problem is that I couldn't locate instructions for how to use the bag in the car to accommodate the player, so I had to improvise. Note, that a few other places sell this player for $249 without the bag and headphones (which goes separately for $28-38 on sale (reg. up to $49 to $119 (?)). With high-quality sound, digital output, progressive scan and composite outputs, this compact player can be the only video player you ever need. And, shopping at Costco is the best product warranty you can get.
