Mitsubishi HS-U776 VCR

Mitsubishi HS-U776 VCR

This model makes it very easy to tape programs off the DirecTV satellite as well as making time shift recordings utilizing both DirecTV and cable/broadcast channels. While other brands of VCRs may allow you to turn on/off and channel up/down, the U776 makes it truly easy to use your DirecTV system. Your DirecTV receiver is attached directly to the S-Video input on the back of the VCR, which in turn is attached to your TV via an S-Video output. The signal passes through meaning that the VCR does not have to be on to watch DirecTV. The built-in 181-channel FS tuner allows you direct access to channels up to number 999. By attaching a remote sensor to the infrared "eye" of your DirecTV receiver the VCR will turn the unit on/off plus change the channels of your DirecTV. It works much like the cable-box controllers found on many VCR Plus+ models. You do not have to go thorough L1 or L2 to access DirecTV.

I recently purchased a Mitsubishi widescreen RPTV (Model 55809, reviewed elsewhere on Epinions). It can produce spectacular results when coupled with high quality video sources. It produces terrible results with marginal signals. One such terrible signal was from a very old VCR that I had connected... Read full review »

I searched far and wide for a quality VCR that had some specific in/outputs, did Super VHS and S-ET recording. The HS-U776 fit the bill. It's a new model from Mitsubishi. Indeed, it is a hard VCR to find, as only a handful of places sell this beauty. I eventually found it on sale for $200.

I bought this VCR a couple of weeks ago to replace my 5 year old Sony. I haven't made use of the S-VHS features, but have found that it records a pretty nice picture on regular VHS tapes. I record tons of stuff during the week and soaps every day. So far the thing hasn't displayed any glitches... Read full review »
