Just before you hit the HDTV craze

Pros Picture, ease of use, Diamond Screen
Cons Not HDTV ready
Recommended it? Yes
Bought from the Good Guys, this unit helped make the decision to not go HDTV easier. With the difference about $1100.00 (1700 to 2800 at the time)to go up to HD, we chose the 50705 and have not one bit of remorse. Set up was quick and easy and when connected to DirecTV the picture is fabulous. As with all projection TV's make sure you do not have a window in front of the set, it will tend to reflect glare. The Mistubishi came with the protective Diamond shield to keep fingerprints and accidents from ruining the main screen. It also improves the picture immensely, if there was a window in front of the TV the Diamond Shield would need to be removed to lower the glare and you'd lose sharpness in the picture. Only the Gold, Platinum and Diamond series have the shield as standard OEM. It is available after market but I belive it is not polarized like the OEM. The remote is simple but not strong enough to run the Entertainment Center completely. We use the Sony After Market AVM series to do all the functions. The volume control is only a level on the TV speakers and it is not easy to tell the kids what is too loud in the standard setting, with the Home theatre activated the receiver shows the volume level digitally. DVD's with component video directly in look fabulous. I have adjusted the conversion with the remote and it suits my likings and taste but I am sure an expert would say it could use a professional to adjust the settings even more. Overall a great set and with an additional $200.00 rebate that just came in the mail and a five year warranty in home from the Good Guys, we could not be happier.
