Great TV, one major problem.....

Pros Good picture, lots of connections
Cons Big white spot in middle of screen!!, and Mitsubishi is unwilling to resolve!!!!
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Not recommended if/ until they fix problem.
At the time when i settled on this TV, it was one of the first to implement DLP technology, and let me tell ya, it stood out from the rest. It had great picture, great contrast, and A/V I/O's to boot. The fact that it was one of the first to actually implement HDMI only sweetened the deal since it is the best/ newest connection out there. But this review is not because the picture is bad or anything, that is until you turn off the lights, and play something w/ a lot of dark scenes, then the problem is very evident. There is a big white spot towards the bottom center half of the screen!!!. And it's not small either, it's about 4-5 in. across and about 2 in. wide.Very NOTICEABLE!!!

I noticed it almost the first night i took the set home, and played a DVD w/ dark scenes. After noting that the problem was not just my imagination, i contacted Mitsubishi, whom for all intents and purposes told me that i was outta luck, and too bad for me. They mentioned, and i quote thier rep. "It's a normal operation of the set". Thats it!, thats all they told me!. When i asked them to clarify how exactly it was normal to have a big white spot in the center of the screen, they evaded my question and simply replied again "It's a normal operation of the set". They said that many people had already contacted them regarding the same issue and that they had all been told the same thing( apperantly it's a problem on many, if not all thier DLP sets). Very bad customer service on Mitsubishi's part. I for one was not willing to accept what they are trying to sell people, that i payed $4,000+ on a top-of-the-line TV with a white spot. Screw that, i immediately contacted my TV dealer after having talked to the Mitsubishi representative. My dealer was a heck of a lot more helpful than Mitsu. he offered to replace the set, w/ another regardless of brand. He had other customers who had complained about the same thing and agreed that it wasn't fair what Mitsu was trying to do to customers: tell them that thier screw up is a normal function of thier TV. Sure!, and car's tires are supposed to fall off the 1st year, right?!. Apperantly they are as i write, working on a fix to this 'Normal operation', but no hard proof yet. I for one, am not waiting around for a fix, though i like the set and its features, the fact that Mitsu. is so discretely trying to hide it's screw up and not helping out it's customers has made me very upset. I will more than likely have gotten a new set from another manufacturer by the time this post is reviewed and posted. I sincerely hope that a Mitsubishi rep stumbles upon this review.

*Update*

Though the white spot issue, and Mitsubishi's horrible attitude regarding this problem has been very irritating, i'll be the first to admit that thier sets are some of the best looking DLP's on the market, which is why i chose the set to begin with. When i tried to find another set to replace it, i was hard pressed to find one that i liked the picture on to the extent i did on th WD52525. I once again spoke with my dealer as to what options i had, and he mentioned that soon Mitsu will be releasing thier new line of LCoS (which are in many ways better than DLP) sets very soon and that i might concider waiting to see if i want to swap it for one of them. So, as mentioned earlier, unless Mitsu somehow chooses to rectify the problem, i'd recommend waiting for thier new LCoS line.
