Great Picture-Poor Repair Record
Pros
Great Picture. Once setup by cable company, set ran perfectly.
Cons
Poor and expensive repair record after less then 3 years of use.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Costly repairs required after less than three years of use. Recommend purchase of extended warranty. Prior TVs including 45" Mitsubishi lasted in excess of five years without costly repairs.
Great Picture. Complex setup accomplished by Cable Company and works great since. Sound system great with assistance of Bose Stereo. Mitsubishi Technical support line was very helpful and responsive in helping set up DVD.
Cons: 2 Projection bulb replacements in two years.
Costly repair in excess of $600 required after two and half years of use. I was told by salesperson, only repairs required would be replacement of projection bulb every few years, which aside from picture quality was main reason for purchase of set initially.
After second bulb replacement, had to reset red light several times, and then red light would not reset. Mitsubishi recommended a repair center that I initially contacted and found was a scam. Technologist made diagnosis of bad projection bulb and tried to replace it. I explained it was only a few months old. He then looked at it without gloves, place his fingerprints on it and said it looked ok. Then service technologist then said I would have to replace the power supply, as the bulb was OK. I asked how he made the diagnosis without doing any tests on my TV and he said "Experience".
I showed him the door, and got a more reputable company from Mitsubishi list. Second company did thorough testing on site , and found that problem was due to malfunction of fans under projection light housing. Repair estimate about $500, with no guarantee there isn't problem with projection light housing as well (additional cost about $600), and only 90day warranty on parts. After having TV for less than 3 years it appears cheaper to buy newer more reliable set.
